Austin Lee Bridges

Austin Lee Bridges was born in Sturkie, Arkansas, on November 24, 1916, son of James Edward and Una May (Martin) Bridges. He departed this life Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 10 days. Austin was united in marriage to Della Sue Javaux on January 10, 1942, at Sturkie, Arkansas. He worked in the heavy equipment industry as a dozer operator for many years. Austin served in the U.S. Army during WWII and also attended Salem Assembly of God. He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Della of the home in Salem, Arkansas; three daughters, Patricia Gail Bridges of Salem, Arkansas, Judy Elaine Fowler of Beebe, Arkansas, and Brenda Smith and husband Keevin of Camp, Arkansas; one son Rodney Bridges of Salem, Arkansas; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson Wyatt Austin Smith; seven brothers, Jessie, Edward, Adrian, Sam, Bill, T J and Earl; five sisters, Chloa, Cecil Mae, Koma, Luetta and Hazel Fay. Funeral services will be held at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 7, 2013, with Rev. Kenn DeShane and Bro. Winford Franks officiating. Interment will be in the Stateline Cemetery at Moko, Arkansas, with services under direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas. Pallbearers are James Mahan, Jon Fowler, Danny Moore, Michael Beard, Travis Taylor, Steven Fowler and Douglas Buss. Memorials preferred to Stateline Cemetery.
