Melinda Sue Deatherage

Melinda Sue Deatherage was born in Lake City, Arkansas, on March 23, 1939, daughter of Alfred Edward “Dick” and Kathryn Elvira (Brashears) Spurlock. She departed this life on January 25, 2014, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mt. Home, Arkansas, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 2 days. Melinda spent her working years as a CNA as well as various other jobs. She was a member of the Enterprise Baptist Church in Viola, Arkansas. She is survived by three sons, Billy Taylor (Cecilia) of Viola, Arkansas, Gary Hensley (Debbie) of Bexar, Arkansas, and Ricky Hensley (Angie) of Mt. Home, Arkansas; one daughter, Katie Shrable (Dennis) of Flippin, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Hicks (Billy), Sarah Johnston (Joey), Jonathan Shrable, Chelsea Brickey (Garrett), Leslie James (Wes), Jessica Staack (Brian) and Calvin Hensley; three great-grandchildren, Riley Johnston, and Katelynn and Carter Hicks; many other relatives and friends. She also had the honor of having a special place in the lives of Shea-Ellen Browning and Jessica Johnson. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Carlton Taylor, Carl Hensley and Norman Deatherage; one son, John Wesley Taylor; her parents; two brothers, Johnny Spurlock and Bill Thrasher; and three sisters, Barbara Cotter, Fern Rundle and Betty Lou Spurlock. Funeral services will be at the Enterprise Baptist Church at Viola, Arkansas, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 2:00 PM with Bro. Robert Lash officiating. Interment will be in the Pickren Hall Cemetery at Viola, Arkansas, with services under direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas. Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2014, 6-8 PM at the Viola First Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Wes James, Garrett Brickey, Brian Staack, Jonathan Shrable, Billy Hicks and Billy Parker. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Spurlock, James Spurlock, Scott Warren, Jeremy Cline, Ryan Williams and Josh Williams. Memorials may be made to the Pickren Hall Cemetery Association.
