Chester Eugene "Gene" Tyree

Chester Eugene “Gene” Tyree, age 80, of Elizabeth, Arkansas was born to William Rose “Bill” and Carrie Zona (Howland) Tyree on August 15, 1937 in Elizabeth, Arkansas. He departed this life on December 10, 2017 in Elizabeth, Arkansas.

Gene was united in marriage to Patricia Armilda Hendrix on December 15, 1967 in Elizabeth, Arkansas and to this union a son was born. Gene owned and operated Tyree Hardware in Viola, Arkansas for twenty one years and loved helping the customers with their many projects. He loved woodworking, making furniture, hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and all kinds of sports. Baseball was a favorite for Gene. He pitched for an Army baseball team where he pitched a no hitter while stationed in Germany. Gene served our country in the US Army and was inducted into the Arkansas Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and was a member of the Elizabeth Church of Christ in Elizabeth, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Tyree of Elizabeth, Arkansas; son, Tim Tyree and wife Amy of Bono, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Tyree and Grady Tyree of Bono, Arkansas; brother, Wendell Tyree and wife Zerah of Columbia, Missouri; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Euna Cotter) and six brothers (Harold, Eldridge, Eldon, O.G., Elmo and Pete).

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Pallbearers are Todd Jackson, Vernon Robbins, Lyn Cotter, Ken Richardson, Brian Shay and Lynn Tyree. Visitation will be 1:00 until time of service Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Barker Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Elizabeth Church of Christ in Elizabeth, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas.
