Francis Richard Onion, age 88, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, passed away on July 16, 2026, at his home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. He was born on January 6, 1938, in Conneaut, Ohio, to Byrd J. Onion and Daisy Viola Castle.

Francis proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving during the Vietnam War. His military service reflected the courage, discipline, and commitment that defined his life.

Following his years of service, Francis enjoyed a quiet life centered around his family and the things he loved most. He was an avid reader who enjoyed expanding his knowledge and could often be found watching his favorite sports teams. More than anything, Francis treasured the time he spent with his family. His love, guidance, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Ruby Ivey (Brad) of Alvin, Texas; his beloved granddaughter, Emily Ivey of Alvin, Texas; two half-brothers, Bill and Jay; three half-sisters, Zelma, Evelyn, and Edith; along with many other relatives and friends.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Byrd J. Onion and Daisy Viola Castle; his stepmother, Shirley Onion; and his half-sister, Margaret.

Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
