George Rex Humphries

George Rex Humphries, 93, of Salem, Arkansas departed this life on December 4, 2019 at Salem, Arkansas. He was born to the late Horatio (Race) James Humphries and Lois Lee (Watson) Humphries on April 19, 1926.  

George was united into marriage to Betty Jo Cunningham on January 12, 1952 in Salem, Arkansas and to this union two children were born. George worked as a bank teller for the Bank of Salem for thirty three years. George served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church. He loved bird hunting, his farm, and rebuilding the old cabin on his farm. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

He leaves to mourn his passing; wife, Betty Humphries of Salem, Arkansas; son, David Humphries and wife Anna of Sturkie, Arkansas; daughter, Ann Barnes and husband Gary of Liberty, Missouri; five grandchildren, Heather Parsons and husband Brandon, B.J. Humphries and wife Nicole, LeeAnn Tullis and husband David, Kristen Johnson and husband Mark, and Beth Humphries; six great grandchildren, Samantha Parsons, Alexis Parsons, Coltin Johnson, Brooks Johnson, Hadley Johnson, and Millie Johnson; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers (Jack Humphries and Jim Humphries).

A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. ~ 8:00 P.M. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Barker Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Arkansas. Pallbearers are B.J. Humphries, Mark Montgomery, Brandon Parsons, Jim Watkins, Mike Newton, and Dennis Perry. Honorary pallbearers are his girls from the bank, Luke Humphries, and Mel Coleman. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas.
