Gerald "Jerry" Paul Albert

Gerald “Jerry” Paul Albert, age 82, of Salem, Arkansas formerly of Shorewood, Illinois was born to George and Sophie (Kreiswski) Albert on March 15, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life on December 11, 2017 in Salem, Arkansas at his home.

Jerry married Dorothy Jean Reinhart on June 14, 1958 in Quincy, Illinois and they were happily married for forty five years. He grew up in St. Louis and graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1952. After high school he attended Quincy College for two years on a football scholarship. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Quincy College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He then continued studies at the University of Illinois.

Jerry worked for the Boy Scouts of America for over twenty five years as a scout executive and camp director. He then worked in institutional advancement for both Lewis University and St. Xavier University before retiring to Salem, Arkansas in 1991. While living in Salem, Arkansas he enjoyed nature and being in the outdoors, camping and fishing, and many great friendships throughout the area. He was respected and admired for his knowledge and experience and admired for his practical demeanor and great sense of humor. He was an active member and volunteer  at Saint Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend for several years.

Jerry leaves to mourn his passing; two sons, Martin Albert and wife Susan of Plainfield, Illinois and Scott Albert and wife Elizabeth of Wheaton, Illinois; five grandchildren, Sarah Albert, Katherine Albert, George Albert, Christina Albert and Nicholas Albert; companion, Louise Mueller of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends around the country. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jean (Reinhart) Albert in July 2003 and his parents.

Services will be 11:00 A.M., January 15, 2018 at Saint Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Labre Indian School (Ashland, Montana 59004, www.stlabre.org). Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
