Listen to Obituary

Jerry Lynn Moody, 82, of Salem, Arkansas passed away on April 18, 2026 at Salem, Arkansas. Jerry was born September 5, 1943 in Batesville, Arkansas to John Jr. and Ruby Faye (McNeill) Moody.

Jerry Moody lived his life much like he trained his horses—with patience, grit, discipline, and a steady belief that doing things the right way mattered. A dedicated farmer, teacher, horseman, brother, uncle, and friend, Jerry leaves behind a legacy built on hard work, loyalty, humor, and the cowboy principles he lived by every day.

Jerry had a deep love for Quarter Horses and a true gift for training them to race—and to win. He understood horses in a way few people do. During the week, Jerry could be found in the classroom, standing firm in his educational foundations as a high school math teacher. On the weekends, he was often at the racetrack, doing what he loved—racing horses, competing, and chasing the next trip to the winner’s circle.

As the oldest brother of six, Jerry was protective, dependable, and steady. He was set in his routines and his ways, and anyone who knew him knew there was little chance of changing his mind once it was made up. Whether on the farm, in the classroom, or at the track, Jerry believed in doing things with purpose and doing them correctly.

Jerry was the very best kind of uncle. He always had birthday money ready, and his refrigerator was never without a cold Coke and a candy bar waiting for his nieces and nephews. He was quick-witted, always ready with a comeback, and never missed an opportunity to make his opinion known. If there was a farm task to be done, Jerry made sure you knew exactly how to do it—even if you had already done that same task a hundred times before.

Though his earthly race has ended, Jerry crossed the finish line with the same strength and determination that marked his life. He now takes his place in the eternal Winner’s Circle, reunited with those who went before him and leaving behind a family who will forever carry his lessons, his humor, and his steady love in their hearts.

Jerry will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.

Jerry leaves to mourn his passing sister, Connie Bray and husband Sonny of Salem, Arkansas; two brothers Johnny Moody and wife Rhonda of Salem, Arkansas and Steve Moody and wife Nancy of Dalton, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Barbara Moody of Salem, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents (John "Jr" and Ruby Faye Moody), sister and brother-in-law (Sue and Louie Lakey), and brother (Dr. Michael Moody).
