Joe Leland Scott, age 86, of West Plains, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in West Plains, Missouri. He was born on October 9, 1939, in West Plains, Missouri, to Leland Ray Scott and Jessie Marie (May) Scott.
Joe spent 30 years as a route salesman for the Colonial Baking Company, where he became known for his friendly smile, strong work ethic, and dedication to serving his customers. He was proud to have honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for four years during the Vietnam War, carrying that same sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.
Joe was a man of the Christian faith who treasured the time he spent with his family. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to his life. Whether attending family gatherings or simply spending time together, those moments were the ones he cherished most.
When he wasn't with family, Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR and rarely missed a race. He faithfully cheered on his favorite drivers, Mark Martin and Kyle Busch, and always looked forward to race day. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and love for those around him will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jula Mae Scott of West Plains, Missouri; his son, Terry Sanders (Joyce) of West Plains, Missouri; three daughters, Tammy Papreck (Tom) of Olathe, Kansas, Tina Thomas (Steve) of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Tabitha Brotherton (Russell) of Ottawa, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Betty Scott of Moody, Missouri; grandchildren, Brandi Richards (Jason) of Calhoun, Georgia, Sunny Sanders of West Plains, Missouri, Anthony Smith II of O'Fallon, Missouri, Cody Sanders of West Plains, Missouri, Natausha Johnson (Jack) of Olathe, Kansas, Rowdy Thomas (Shyanna) of Stinnett, Texas, Kyler Brotherton of Wichita, Kansas, and Raven Thomas of Elk City, Oklahoma; many beloved great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Ray Scott and Jessie Marie (May) Scott; two brothers, Kenneth Lee Scott and Neal Ray Scott; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Martin (Jerry) and Norma Jean Fine (Eddie Newell).
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
