John Caggar Greer III, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on November 29, 2019, in Conway, Arkansas. He was born December 5, 1942, in Harlan, Kentucky to John Caggar Greer, Jr. and Evelyn Ruth (Mann) Greer.
After the loss of his father in World War II, his mother married James Cyphers, who was a career airman. The military life carried them to many places, and John completed his schooling in various states and even England.
After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree from the Arkansas Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas), he earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. John spent over 40 years serving as an advocate for those in need, and as an administrator over behavioral health care facilities.
John was married to Toni Weathers on November 5, 1985 in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas. An avid Razorback fan, he loved to fish Ozark streams, watch wildlife, and visit the sugar-white sands of the Gulf of Mexico. Retirement allowed John and Toni the opportunity to explore Texas and northern Arkansas in their RV.
John was preceeded in death by his paternal grandparents John Caggar Greer, Sr. and Martha, maternal grandparents Gordon Mann and Ethel, and step-grandmother Hilda; parents John Caggar Greer, Jr., and James and Evelyn Cyphers; and one granddaughter, Savannah Ruth Greer.
John is survived by his wife Toni Weathers Greer, daughter Malynda Sligh (Terry) of Little Rock, son John Paul Greer (Haley) of Monticello, grandson Nick Sligh (Miranda), granddaughters Elizabeth Bayird (Drew) and Emma Grace Greer, great-grandchildren Halle and Haven Sligh, and Cason Bayird. John also leaves behind his three sisters, Pat (Larry) Hines, Pam (Bill) Buchan, and Tammy Beckham, and several nieces and nephews.
The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care provided by Elania Harper, Nitoria Hill, Teia Harper, and LaKendra Singler.
