Joseph Throckmorton Hammond, III

Joseph Throckmorton Hammond, III, 71, of Salem, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, August 5, 2021 in Salem, Arkansas.  Joe was born April 2, 1950 to Joseph T. Hammond, II and Elouise (Cheek) Hammond in Baltimore, Maryland.

Joe graduated high school in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He attended college at the University of Miami, Appalachian State University, and Baylor University. Unofficially he attended the school of Hard Knocks and the Round Table University. After all this education, Joe would quote Yakov Smirnoff frequently when baffled "what a country". Joe was blessed with two biological children, Joe and Jennifer, also an extra special stepdaughter Tori.

Joe was a world traveler, a workacholic, Patriot, sports fan, bookacholic, and had a huge heart. Joe hated to see anyone struggle. He was there to help with a smile, a listening ear, a helping hand, offering advice, or just a hug. His favorite saying was "Love Ya Big". 

The students from Mammoth Spring High School, where he worked as a Resource Officer, held a very special spot in Joe's heart. He loved seeing them become adults, become married, parents, and good humans.

Joe leaves to mourn his passing son, Joseph E. Hammond of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter, Jennifer Ognek and husband Mike of Fredricksburg, Virginia; stepdaughter, Tori Tinnon and husband Tom of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Abigail, Annabelle, Benjamin, Kannon, Kaden, and Olive Pearl. He is preceded in death by his parents (Joseph and Elouise) and sister (Melinda Hammond).

Gathering of friends to honor Joe will be 2:00 P.M. until around 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Salem VFW in Salem, Arkansas. Come to share stories, hugs, grief, laughter, and most of all the love we have for this kind, jolly, and caring man. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
