It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Crow of Salem, Arkansas, announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, 21 days. She was born in San Francisco, California, on September 14, 1936, to Glenn and Ruth Ramsdell.
Joyce spent her childhood and teen years in San Francisco where she met an Arkansas boy who was stationed at Fort Cronkhite at the time. They were married on December 4, 1954, and she spent the next nineteen years as an Army wife and raised three sons. They traveled the world together, at times having to keep the home fire burning by herself through her husband’s multiple combat tours in Korea and Vietnam.
Upon retiring from the Army, they settled in the Salem-Viola area in 1973. She served as the Fulton County Deputy Assessor for twenty plus years. She was a founding member of the Salem VFW Post 9777’s Ladies Auxiliary and served multiple times as the Post and District President. Additionally, she gladly served as the Fulton County Veterans Service Officer for four years. She always championed veterans and their families.
She was a member of the Viola First Baptist Church. She loved God and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved her family but more importantly they loved her dearly. She adored her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She also spread the love of Jesus to everyone she met.
She had a sense of humor and loved to laugh, even though she didn’t get most of our jokes. And if you ever told a joke about Grandpa, well, you’d only do it once. She will be so greatly missed.
Joyce is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Vernon Crow of the home; children, Bill (Roxanne) Crow of Viola, Arkansas, Danny (Lou) Crow of Camp, Arkansas, and Kenneth (Terri) Crow of Salem, Arkansas; grandchildren, Maranda (Charles) Pingel of Salem, Arkansas, Makenzie (Caleb) Pingel of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Morgan (Caitlin) Crow of Viola, Arkansas, Danielle (Billy) Fitzgerald of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Brian (Martie) Crow of Elkins, Arkansas, Steven Crow of Lawton, Oklahoma, Jason (Jennifer) Crow of Odessa, Florida, Brandon (Daisy) Crow of Salem, Arkansas, and Cameron (Kristie) Crow of Wahiawa, Hawaii; twenty-four great grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Barbara) Ramsdell of Citrus Heights, California; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Glenn Ramsdell, Jr.), half sister, Marilyn Daggs, and granddaughter (Marissa Crow).
