Larry Dale Sanders

December 2, 1961 — September 29, 2019

Larry Dale Sanders was born December 2, 1961 to Noel Chester “Shorty” and Hazel Laverne (Bray) Sanders in Batesville, Arkansas. He lived in Salem with his family until 1991. On September 29, 2019, after a five-month battle with cancer, Larry departed this life at the age of 57 with family by his side and took his place in the kingdom of Heaven.

Larry lived a life of service. He believed that each of us was meant to hold the cares of another in our hands and share the tests and triumphs in this life; that we should love others as we would want to be loved and put the needs of others before our own. He could be counted on to help anyone in need of anything at any time. His professional life was devoted to serving the needs of families after the loss of a loved one. In their darkest hour, Larry made an opportunity to model love and respect to those who go before us and to those we leave behind. He supported his community through volunteer service and qualified leadership. His upmost accomplishment was his family. Were he here today, he would tell you that he is truly blessed and proud to be surrounded by the family in which he was gifted by God.

He began his working years with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. After obtaining his Mortuary Science degree in 1992, he spent his professional career as a funeral director and mortician. He also served 20 years in the Carrol County Coroner’s Office as Deputy Coroner for 10 years and Coroner for 10 years. In 2006, Larry purchased Highland Hills Transport Service, a family business dedicated to assisting funeral homes with transportation needs.

Throughout his life, Larry served various roles in the following organizations: the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, Berryville Police Department as a reserve officer, Berryville Ashley Masonic Lodge #66, Arkansas Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, Missouri Funeral Directors Association and the Carroll County Coroner’s Office.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Williams) Sanders, daughter Whitney Bartley and husband Joseph, son Cody Sanders and wife Annie, grandchildren Cameron and Caelyn Bartley (all of Conway), sisters Wanda Jean Hall and Shelia Kay Auten and husband Frankie (of Salem), in-laws Garry and Janice Williams (of Viola), Robert and Rebecca Lash (of Viola), many nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Noel Chester Sanders, Jr., sister and brother-in-law Nora Fay and Leon Jones, brother-in-law Boyd Ray Hall, grandparents Jake and Maggie Sanders, and Joseph and Artie Bray, nephew Desi Jones, great-niece Marissa Crow, and father and mother in-law William “Bill” and June Williams.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. John Hodges and Bro. Robert Lash officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery in Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, PO Box 2222, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72203-9984.
