Peggy Sue Newman, 70, of Salem, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025. She was born on April 20, 1955, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Mary Ellen Campbell Ply and G. L. Ply.
Peggy spent her life working in various roles, including as a medical clerk, always bringing dedication and a caring spirit to whatever she did. She married the love of her life, Thomas Lee Newman, on December 12, 1998, in Byron, Arkansas, and together they built a life rooted in love and family.
She was a woman of many passions—she adored Elvis Presley, spent countless joyful hours creating diamond art, and loved playing games on her phone. Peggy had a big heart and an even bigger presence. Her kindness, warmth, and love for her family touched everyone who knew her. She was a proud Christian and lived her life guided by her faith.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Tom Newman of Salem, Arkansas; her son, Daniel Newman (Kaylee) of Mountain Home, Arkansas; two daughters, Dana Newman of Salem, Arkansas, and Renee Cook of Camden, Arkansas; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters: Mary Ann Ringo (Thomas) of Conway, Arkansas, Ellen Beard of Conway, Arkansas, Debra Sellers of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Betty Pennington of Camden, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Cornett; her brother, J.G. Ply; and her sister, Joyce Ply.
A memorial service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Byron Community Building in Byron, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to help offset funeral expenses. Donations can be sent to FNBC, c/o Kaylee Newman.
Peggy will be remembered always for her generous heart, her joyful spirit, and the deep love she had for her family.
