Peggy Christine (Rhodus) Varnado, 94, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2026. Born on April 23, 1932, in Springfield, Louisiana, she was the cherished daughter of Charlie Rhodus Sr. and Ethel Rhodus.
Peggy lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. She dedicated 27 years of her career as an accountant with the Louisiana State Police before continuing her working years with Walmart for 17 years. Though she took pride in her work, her greatest joy was found in the people she loved and the life she built with her family.
A talented quilter and avid traveler, Peggy found happiness in creating beautiful things and making memories wherever life took her. She was a devoted member of Horseshoe Bend First Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday School and shared her love of the Lord with generations of children and church members. Her strong faith was a guiding light throughout her life and an inspiration to those who knew her.
Peggy married the love of her life, Wayne Varnado, in 1952, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and lasting traditions. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her gentle spirit, wisdom, and caring heart will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Varnado of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, and Daniel Varnado of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; her daughter, Debbie Dudden (Bob) of Denham Springs, Louisiana; her brother, Edwin Lloyd Rhodus (Penny) of Denham Springs, Louisiana; her sister, Alene Delatte of Pensacola, Florida; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory forever.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne Varnado; her parents, Charlie Rhodus Sr. and Ethel Rhodus; her daughter, Sheree Rodriguez; her son, Keith Varnado; her sisters, Jeri Monismith and Helen Rhodus; and her brothers, Charlie Rhodus Jr. and Henry Aaron Rhodus.
The family will hold memorial services at a later date in Kentwood, Louisiana. The burial of her ashes will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Osyka, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missions Fund of Horseshoe Bend First Baptist Church.
The children would like to thank the staff of Southfork River Therapy and Living and Legacy Hospice for the care and comfort of their mother.
Her legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
