Roye Huston Scribner, 87, of Salem, Arkansas, passed away on August 7, 2026, in Salem, Arkansas.
He was born on March 6, 1939, in Fairview, Arkansas, to Ewell Huston Scribner and Goldie Inez (Jennings) Scribner.
On June 28, 1957, Roye married the love of his life, Mary Ethel Sutherland, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, hard work, and the land they loved. Mary preceded him in death, but the legacy they created together lives on through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Roye spent his life working and serving his community. He was a farmer at heart and had a deep love for the land. He owned and operated the Sears store in Salem for 17 years and also worked for the Co-op and North Arkansas Electric Cooperative. No matter where he worked, Roye was known for his strong work ethic and belief that when it was time to work, it was time to work.
He loved helping people and was always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor or friend in need. He treasured his family and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them. Roye found happiness outdoors, whether he was tending his cattle, spending time with his beloved bulldogs, fishing, hunting, or simply enjoying the beauty of the land he called home. While he enjoyed having a good time and sharing stories with friends, he never lost sight of the importance of hard work and responsibility.
Roye was a member of the Salem Church of Christ in Salem, Arkansas.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Alan Scribner and wife René of Celina, Texas, and Kevin Gregory Scribner and wife Annette of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; one daughter, Jamie Lynn Bartholomew of Harrisburg, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jordan Chesnut and husband Taylor, Megan Calloway and husband James, Connor Scribner and wife Skylar, Kaitlin Lamborn, Chloe Scribner, Mackenzie McGaughey and husband Ryan, Kristin Vanaman and fiance Braxton, and Jake Vanaman; nine great-grandchildren, Aiden Calloway, Emery Calloway, Kylan Lamborn, Jackson Chesnut, Sloan Scribner, Tucker Chesnut, Rose Chesnut, Hope Scribner, and Lennon McGaughey; one brother, Tommy Scribner and wife Novela of Salem, Arkansas; two sisters, Nellie Dawn Gilbreath of Salem, Arkansas and Hazel Wyatt of Mountain Home, Arkansas; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ethel Scribner; his parents, Ewell Huston and Goldie Inez Scribner; and his sister, Phobe Sue Scribner.
Memorials may be made to the Salem Church of Christ or the Paragould Children's Home in Paragould, Arkansas.
