Vela Christine (Walker) Truitt

Vela Christine (Walker) Truitt, 90, of Mountain Home, Arkansas formerly of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas and Champaign, Illinois, departed this life on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was born to the late Thurman Allen Walker and Susie Pearl (Brumley) Walker on June 23, 1927 in Tuckerman, Arkansas.

Vela was united in marriage to Charles “Tom” Truitt on July 3, 1947 in Newport, Arkansas and to this union two sons were born. Over the years she worked at Herff Jones Cap & Gown, plus Century 21 Realty in Champaign, Illinois and Scenic Realty in Horseshoe Bend, Arkasnas. She also served as office manager for Philo Road Church, Truitt Heating and Air and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ash Flat Church of Christ and a former member of Philo Road Church of Christ in Urban, Illinois. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She leaves to mourn her passing; two sons, Don Truitt and wife Judy of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Dan Truitt of Thomasboro, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kelly Engler and husband Chris of Loves Park, Illinois, Todd Truitt and wife Kristi of Derby, Kansas, Jessica Rouse and husband Shawn of Dallas, Texas, Jamie Morris and husband Craig of Haslet, Texas and Katie Truitt of Dallas, Texas; five great grandchildren, Macey Truitt, Meier Truitt, Kylie Truitt Rouse, Gage Morris and Landon Morris; brother, Charles Walker of Marion, Arkansas; two sisters, Debra Ledbetter of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas and Dovie Logan of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters (Opal Jack Vandever, Audrey Douglas and Eunice Dee Sims) and infant brother (T.A. Walker, Jr.).

Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. Tom Douglas officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hospice House of the Ozarks, 701 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, Arkansas 72653. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas.
