Virginia Gay VanVleck, 93, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed from this life on Monday, October 25, 2021, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Virginia was born October 7, 1928, to Dratie Alexander Miller and Mary Mae (Bush) Miller in Holly Grove, Arkansas.

Gay was united in marriage to Charles VanVleck on October 21,1964 in Muskegon, Michigan. Gay was a faithful member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Muskegon, Michigan and loved to volunteer in her community. Gay graduated as valedictorian of Holly Grove High School class of 1946, from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA), and received her Masters from the University of Arkansas. Gay loved to travel, having traveled to Europe several times and Russia. She was an avid reader, worked crossword puzzles, played golf, enjoyed attending the symphony and photography. She taught at Holly Grove High School, worked for Delta Airlines, and was executive director of the Girl Scout Council in Michigan, where she met her husband who was a board member. She retired from Muskegon School District as a English/Journalism teacher. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend.

Virginia leaves to mourn her passing stepson, Charles E. VanVleck and wife Barb of Westland, Michigan; three brothers, Rodney Miller of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Frank Miller and wife Jenny of Holly Grove, Arkansas, and Charles Miller and wife Jo Ann of Salem, Arkansas; two sisters, Pat Benz and husband Ray of Little Rock, Arkansas and Peggy Evans of Marianna, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Carolyn Banks Miller of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sister-in-law, Flo Miller of Holly Grove, Arkansas; many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband (Charles VanVleck), parents (Dratie and Mary Miller), four brothers (Dratie Miller, Jimmy Miller, D.A. Miller, Jr., and Gene Miller), and two sisters (Mary Miller Seaborn and Ruth Miller Mooney).

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Holly Grove Presbyterian Church in Holly Grove, Arkansas with The Reverend Fern Davis officiating. Memorials may be made to the Holly Grove Presbyterian Church in care of Jean Kirkpatrick, 51 Kirkpatrick Lane, Holly Grove, Arkansas 72069. Final resting place will be in Macedonia Cemetery in Holly Grove, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home, LLC in Salem, Arkansas.
