Gomer Paul Gene Martin

Paul Gene “Gomer” Martin, 80, of Salem, Arkansas passed from this life on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Cave City, Arkansas.  Gomer was born March 9, 1940 to Carl H. Martin and Elva (Jackson) Martin at Glencoe, Arkansas.

Gomer married Betty Wallace and to this union three children were born.  Gomer spent his working years as the Fulton County Sheriff, Fulton County Deputy Sheriff, Fulton County JP, for the ABC and with the North Central Unit in Calico Rock, Arkansas.  He also owned Martin’s Exxon Station, worked for Liberty Telephone Company, Cone Lumber Yard, was the summer ball commissioner and was a member of the Agnos Church of Christ.  Gomer was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Gomer leaves to mourn his passing, daughter, Lisa Yarnell (Burton) of Salem, Arkansas; two sons, Tony Martin of Salem, Arkansas and Jason Martin (Carrie) of Ash Flat, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Lacey McKay (Nathan), Ryan Yarnell, Stacey Yarnell, Mackenzie Turner, Wendi Broyles (John), Morgan Rettew (Cody), Alex Martin (Emily) and Sydney Martin; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Billie Jo Moss of Pineville, Arkansas and Margie Bridges of West Plains, Missouri; two brothers, Rayford Martin of Salem, Arkansas and Keith Martin of Johnston City, Illinois; two special caregivers, Robin Helm and Jessie Folyer; many other relatives and friends.  Gomer is preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter-in-law (Lisa Martin), sister (Claudine Drake), three brothers (Haskell, Arnold, and Michael).

Funeral services will be Thursday, 2:00 PM, February 25, 2021 at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. John Hodges and Dale Godwin officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday 1:00 PM until time of the service at Salem First Baptist Church.  Interment will be in the Humphries Cemetery in Glencoe, Arkansas.  Memorials may be made to the Cave City Nursing Home or Legacy Hospice.  Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
